Art Deco Drinks Cocktail Cabinet, Vintage, painted, upcycled, retro gin bar
This vintage cabinet has some wonderful Art Deco features. The long, wooden bar handles and the classic Deco shape and design, including the decorative feet, make it a fine example of Art Deco furniture from the 1930s.This cabinet, is not only striking, it's extremely practical. With cupboard space on the top and 3 deep drawers underneath, it would work well as a drinks cabinet, but also look fabulous in a bedroom, living room or entrance hall. The cupboard has a removable shelf and can accommodate full sized bottles. The drawers are 18.5 cms deep and we were able to fit our wine glasses into them with no problem - though, of course, it does depend on the size of your glasses!
The veneer was damaged, so we took the decision to paint the cabinet. We repaired the veneer where we could, but removed it completely from the top. We knew it would look amazing in blue and created a custom blend of 3 Fusion Mineral Paint colours - Midnight Blue, Liberty Blue and Coal Black. This beautiful, dark, deep, blue, looks incredibly classy and elegant. We highlighted the feet with silver gilding wax and also the metal ends of the handles. We also highlighted the raised trim on the left side cupboard door and added a line detail on the right cupboard door, both with silver gilding wax. We have painted the inside of the cupboard with the same custom blend of blue. as the outside. We've added a battery operated, sensor light, inside the cabinet, which has 3 settings, on, off and auto. The light has a magnet which attaches to the fitting we've added inside the cabinet. We have added new magnet cupboard door holders to keep them in place, but have left the original door fittings in place too. The inside and sides of the drawers have been cleaned and nourished with Fusion's Hemp Oil and kept original.
This cabinet is a striking piece of Art Deco history and so perfect for this kind of interior, but would also work in a Hollywood Regency or more traditional space. The trend for dark, moody and dramatic interiors is more popular then ever and this would fit perfectly into this kind of contemporary scheme, as well as adding a stylish flourish to a more neutral decor.
We are always delighted to be able to rescue and refinish beautiful, good quality, vintage furniture. We lavish them with care and attention, clean them thoroughly and breathe new life into them, but we can't make them look like new - and we don't want to! These are character items and their imperfections are an integral part of their story. As a vintage piece from the 1930s it does show signs of use and age related wear and tear. There is some gapping at the top of the cabinet doors.
