Art Deco Chest of Drawers, 1930s, painted, green and gold.
  • Art Deco Chest of Drawers, 1930s, painted, green and gold.

This 1930s chest of drawers was such a fabulous find.  We absolutely love its beautiful deco features.  The gorgeous Art Deco handles and lovely decorative panels are striking, but it's the addition of the elegant sweeping curve of the base that pulls the wonderfully Deco design together beautifully and makes this such a standout piece of furniture.

Not only is this beautiful to look at, it is also hugely practical with 5 drawers offering plenty of storage space.  We have refinished this lovely chest of drawers in a beautiful green colour by Fusion Mineral Paint called Lichen.  We have highlighted the decorative features with Posh Chalk pigments in Byzantine Gold, which we have then glazed with an antique glaze.  We think the combination of these 2 colours is really stunning.  The handles have been painted using the same colour combinations, with the Byzantine Gold used on the metal bell shaped spacers and curved metal top part of the handle.  We have added layers of a flat varnish to give added protection.  The sides and insides of the drawers have been painted in a beautiful cream colour called Limestone, again by Fusion Mineral Paint.  The drawer runners have all been cleaned and waxed to ensure they run well.  We have also waxed the sides of the drawers, again to ensure they run smoothly.

This is a very classy piece of furniture and we have never come across another like it.  The beautiful green colour would fit well into so many different colour schemes, with the gold detailing adding real style and elegance.

We are always delighted to be able to rescue and refinish beautiful, good quality, vintage, furniture. We lavish them with care and attention, clean them thoroughly and breathe new life into them, but we can't make them look like new - and we don't want to! These are character items and their imperfections are an integral part of their story. As a vintage piece from the 1930s it does show signs of use and age, but these do not detract from its style and practicality. There are some dinks and areas of wear to the wood, as you would expect from a chest of drawers that is over 90 years old, but there is plenty of life left in this gorgeous piece. There is some gapping to the top of the drawers, but they all work well.  Please note that you can see the grain of the wood beneath the paint. If you are looking for an off the shelf, mass produced, item with a perfect factory finish, this isn't the piece for you, but if you want a special and unique one-off, that you definitely won't find anywhere else - you've found your perfect match! If you have any queries, please do not hesitate to get in touch.
