Art Deco 1930s Cocktail Drinks Cabinet, Gin Bar, Painted Green and Gold Vintage
This authentic Art Deco, 1930s cabinet, is perfectly formed. Its compact size, along with its classic elegance, makes it a very desirable item. It has the stepped shape that the Art Deco style was known for, with the top drawer inset from the cupboard area below, however, in contrast with some other cabinets featuring this stepped design, this has Queen Anne style legs. We think this combination works beautifully together.
This gorgeous tallboy has a striking, vintage look and feel that we wanted to embrace and enhance. We chose to paint it in a deep, rich, green. We created a custom colour using 2 Fusion Mineral Paint colours; Pressed Fern and Coal Black. We then created a Coal Black glaze which we used over the entire piece. This added a real depth and tone to the finish; the black glaze settling in to certain areas giving the appearance of the patina you get with age. We highlighted the border and legs with a vintage gold paint, using Posh Chalk pigments Byzantine Gold, mixed with a little more of the Coal Black. The original metal handles are stunning, so we just cleaned and highlighted them with gold gilding wax. We also used the gilding wax on the hinges. We have painted the inside of the generous cupboard area with Fusion's Midnight Blue. We have sealed the inside and outside with multiple layers of a Satin varnish for added sheen and protection. The insides and sides of the drawers have been kept natural. The inside of the drawers have been cleaned and nourished with Orange Oil. The sides of the drawers have been treated with Earthborn's furniture wax to ensure they run smoothly. There is a latch which pushes down on the left hand cupboard door and a catch on the right hand door to keep them in place.

We are always delighted to be able to rescue and refinish beautiful, good quality, vintage, furniture. We lavish them with care and attention, clean them thoroughly and breathe new life into them, but we can't make them look like new - and we don't want to! These are character items and their imperfections are an integral part of their story. As a vintage piece from the 1930s it does show signs of use and age, but these do not detract from its style and practicality. There are some dinks and areas of wear to the wood, as you would expect from a cabinet that is over 90 years old, but there is plenty of life left in this gorgeous piece. There has been warping of the wood, which means there is some gapping to the top of the drawers/cabinet doors, with the most apparent gapping being on the top drawer, but the drawers and doors all work well. There are also some dinks to the handles, again, completely understandable given their age. There are differences in tones of colour, due to the glaze effect we have used. If you are looking for an off the shelf, mass produced, item with a perfect factory finish, this isn't the cabinet for you, but if you want a special and unique one-off, that you definitely won't find anywhere else - you've found your perfect match!
