Art Deco 1930s Chest of Drawers, Painted, Green and Silver
  • Art Deco 1930s Chest of Drawers, Painted, Green and Silver

This beautiful chest of drawers has real Deco style, with its striking handles and elegant shape.  We were excited to find what we believe is the date it was made written inside; 18/11/1936 and it's a lovely example of furniture from this era.

Not only is it elegantly Deco, it's also hugely practical with 5 drawers offering plenty of storage space.  We have refinished it in a soft, pastel green, custom colour, made up of 2 Fusion Mineral Paint colours, Bayberry and Inglenook.

We have highlighted the feet and base trim with Posh Chalk pigments in Silver,  with a little Coal Black to soften the tone down.  We think the combination works beautifully.   We have added layers of a flat varnish to give added protection.

The inside of the drawers have been cleaned and we used Orange Oil to refresh them.   The drawer runners have also all been cleaned and waxed to ensure they run well.  We have waxed the sides of the drawers to ensure they run smoothly. The striking, original, metal handles have been given a gentle clean.

This is an elegant piece of furniture and we have never come across another like it. The beautiful soft, pastel, green colour would fit well into so many different colour schemes.

We are always delighted to be able to rescue and refinish beautiful, good quality, vintage, furniture. We lavish them with care and attention, clean them thoroughly and breathe new life into them, but we can't make them look like new - and we don't want to! These are character items and their imperfections are an integral part of their story.

As a vintage piece from the 1930s it does show signs of use and age, but these do not detract from its style and practicality.

There are some dinks and areas of wear to the wood, as you would expect from a chest of drawers that is over 80 years old, but there is plenty of life left in this gorgeous piece. There is some gapping to the top of the drawers, but they all work well.   The handles have cleaned up beautifully, but are showing signs of wear.  Please note that you can see the grain of the wood beneath the paint.

If you are looking for an off the shelf, mass produced, item with a perfect factory finish, this isn't the piece for you, but if you want a special and unique one-off, that you definitely won't find anywhere else - you've found your perfect match! If you have any queries, please do not hesitate to get in touch.
