1930s Cigar Box, upcycled, painted with silver cherry blossom stencil
This beautiful, hand painted, jewellery box, was originally a cigar box, believed to date to the 1930s/1940s. It was certainly functional, but not particularly attractive to look at.
We thoroughly cleaned, sanded and hand painted it with a gorgeous, soft teal, eggshell, paint. We added a chinoiserie style, cherry blossom, raised stencil, using Fusion's embossing paste. We then highlighted this with Posh Chalk's silver pigment, to give it a fabulous shimmer! We buffed up the eggshell paint to give it a lovely sheen, which works wonderfully with the silver highlighted cherry blossom design.
With the outside given a makeover, we turned our attention to the inside. Originally just bare, unfinished, wood, we chose this striking brocade fabric, to continue the Oriental theme. We love the contrast of the soft teal exterior with the hot pink fabric! We've backed the fabric with a thick felt to add some padding, so that your special, treasured pieces, can be safely stored.
We've lavished lots of care and attention on this vintage box, but please remember, as a vintage piece, it's been used for decades and so will show signs of wear and tear. We enjoy finding and refinishing these vintage items and love to think of them being used and enjoyed for many years to come; however, we don't want to erase their history and character completely, so they will have the odd dink and flaw - and each one is completely unique.
